If your book is ready to be published, it is time to start marketing
October 18, 2010
The first step before starting any book project is to first determine your audience and your marketing strategy. Think about what type of readers will enjoy, purchase and recommend your book. Determine how old or young your reader is and what are their personal interests. Your answer to the question, “Who is your reader?” should never be “Everyone.”
You need to be precise about the profile of your readership. It will help you determine whether a book should be in print or electronic format. This profile will also help you make many important decisions throughout the publishing process including cover design, font size, and editing. It will also help you target your ideal readership.
Targeting your ideal readership takes hard work but modern social media technologies such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and blogs are great ways to establish an online dialogue where potential readers will follow you and hopefully purchase your book. Using these social media tools helps you identify readers and in turn makes it easier for readers to recommend your book to their friends. Participating in online forums, discussions, and groups are also a great ways to establish a following and promote you.
So if your book is ready to be published, either with a publisher or self-published, set up a profile on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn and start marketing your book right away!
